In Japan a summer festival is usually held during the Bon period.
People get together to enjoy Bon dancing, foods, and games with friends and family.
Some stands sell shaved ice and cotton candy, and there are game stands, too.
Kingyo-sukui(goldfish scooping) is one of the favorite games among children. It is a game
which they try to scoop up goldfish into a bowl with a net made of thin paper called poi.
They can catch as many fish as they like as long as the paper doesn't tear in the water.
If they can't catch any, the stand keeper usually gives them one.
After the summer, the goldfish reminds us of the good time we had at the summer festival.

In Japan, there is a festival in many places along with “Obon.” It is called “Bon-odori.” In “Bon-odori,” there are many night stands. There are mainly shaved ices and cotton candy stores, but it not only food store. There are “to Catch goldfish” and “to Catch yo-yo” which children enjoy playing with.
“to Catch goldfish” is that people try to catch goldfish with “kingyo-tori,” which made by thin paper, until “kingyo-tori” is broken. It is OK they can catch goldfish as much as possible until “kingyo-tori” is broken, but many people cannot catch even one. In that case, they can get one from the store.
After we come back home with goldfish, we keep them, and it reminds us for a long time that we went to “Bon-odori”.
Of course, we do Bon-dance in “Bon-odori.” On the other hand, many people prefer many night stands to do Bon-dance.
